Heiko von der Leyen

Heiko Echter von der Leyen (born 2 June 1955 in Hanover) is a German professor of medicine and the husband of politician Ursula von der Leyen. He is a member of the ancient noble Leyen family.

After finishing his medical education at the University of Hamburg, Hanover Medical School and Stanford University, he was a faculty member at Stanford for several years[1] He earned his Habilitation at Hanover Medical School in 1998[2] and was an extraordinary Professor of Internal Medicine and Experimental Cardiology at Hanover Medical School from 2002.[3] He has also been the CEO of the company ARTISS GmbH in Hanover[4]

He became the Director of Hanover Clinical Trial Center GmbH, a pharmaceutical company performing clinical tests, in 2005.[5]

Heiko and Ursula von der Leyen have seven children.
